Couch

In the Language of Mind a couch is not about comfort or laziness — it is the settled inner stability you rest your awareness upon. Read its form and function: a couch is the piece of furniture built to support you while you sit back, pause, and let your weight be held without effort; and since the house is your own state of mind and the objects in each room are the thoughts that furnish it, a couch mirrors a thought-structure of rest, security, and self-support you have already built — a place in consciousness solid enough to relax into. So examine where in your waking life you finally feel held: which understanding have you earned that now lets you stop bracing and simply be. The variations sharpen it. A worn or sagging couch = a foundation of security that has quietly given out and needs rebuilding; lying down or unable to rise from it = ease that has slipped into stagnation, comfort mistaken for completion, a part of you settling instead of growing. One symbol, read clean — but the room it sits in, the figure beside you, the door across from it are still speaking.
