In the Language of Mind, a hug is acceptance — the act of fully embracing and holding an aspect of your own Self. Look at its form and function: a hug is wrapping your arms around someone and drawing them close, the body's plainest gesture of "I accept you, you belong here." And since every person in a dream is an aspect of you — never an outer person — when you embrace someone you are wrapping your awareness around a part of yourself and pulling it back into the whole. So your subconscious isn't showing you another body; it's showing you an inner quality you are finally accepting, integrating, holding with affection instead of holding at arm's length.

Read the variations. Notice who you embraced: hugging a child = welcoming a young, still-developing part of yourself; hugging a stranger = accepting an unfamiliar quality you haven't owned yet; hugging someone you'd been estranged from = reconciling with a part of self you once exiled. And notice the feeling — a warm hug = genuine self-acceptance taking root; a stiff or one-sided hug = a part of you still reaching for an aspect that won't yet receive it. Examine where in your waking life you are learning to embrace what you once pushed away. That is one symbol read clean — but the figure you held, the room you stood in, the light you were under are all still speaking.
