Enemy

In the Language of Mind, an enemy is never another person — it is a negative, unproductive aspect of yourself you are at war with. Look at the form and function: an enemy is a figure who opposes you, who you push against and refuse to make peace with; and since every person in a dream is part of the dreamer, that opposition is happening inside one mind — yours. So when an enemy appears, your subconscious is showing you a way of being you've cast as "the bad guy" and locked in conflict with instead of integrating: the self-criticism, the resentment, the habit you keep fighting and keep losing to. Examine where in your waking life you are battling a part of yourself you'd rather defeat than understand. Read the variations closely: an enemy chasing you is an unproductive trait you keep running from and won't be honest about — turn and face it and it loses its power; a faceless or stranger enemy is that same aspect with low self-awareness, a part of you not yet recognized; defeating the enemy is the moment that old pattern finally transforms (in this language, that "death" is inner change, never literal). That is one figure, read clean. The terrain you fought on, the weapon in your hand, anyone standing beside you — each is still speaking, still part of you.
