movement into lower levels of mind until back to the conscious mind of the physical
'Falling' in a dream represents movement from the inner levels of mind back toward the conscious mind of the physical. This is one of the most universally experienced dream events, and it is not what most people think it is. Falling is not a symbol of failure. It is the actual experience of your consciousness moving between levels of mind -- specifically, descending from a deeper inner level back toward the outermost physical level. When you are deeply asleep, your consciousness is operating within the inner levels of the subconscious mind -- the emotional, lower astral, upper astral, or mental levels. When something triggers a shift back toward waking consciousness -- a noise, a change in sleep cycle, an alarm -- your consciousness begins its descent back through the levels toward the physical. This descent is experienced as falling because you are literally moving from a higher vibrational level to a lower one. This is why falling dreams so often jolt you awake. The falling ends the moment your consciousness re-enters the physical body and the physical level of mind. The jolt you feel is the reconnection -- your awareness snapping back into the body after operating outside of it. Pay attention to the quality of the fall. A slow, gentle descent reflects a gradual, controlled return to conscious awareness. A rapid, terrifying fall suggests an abrupt, uncontrolled shift back to the physical -- often caused by an external disruption or a sudden spike in conscious mind activity. Are you falling from a great height (deep inner levels) or a short height (levels closer to the physical)? Do you land, or do you wake before impact? When falling shows up in your dream, it is reflecting the natural process of your consciousness moving between levels. Use this awareness to develop greater control over the transition. As your concentration strengthens, your ability to move between levels with awareness and intention increases. Eventually, the fall becomes a flight -- you learn to navigate the descent consciously rather than being jolted back to the physical against your will.
