Fishing

In the Language of Mind, fishing is the deliberate act of drawing spiritual knowledge up out of your own depths. Look at its form and function: fishing means casting a line down into deep water and patiently pulling up what lives beneath the surface — and water is conscious life experience, so the deep is the subconscious. The rod is a mental tool for acquiring inner knowledge; to fish is to drop your attention beneath the everyday surface and reel an understanding up into the light of the waking mind. So when you dream of fishing, your subconscious is showing you that you are actively seeking insight that already exists within you, waiting to be landed. Examine where in your waking life you are fishing — what question you keep casting toward, hoping the deeper Self will answer. Read the variations: catching a fish = an understanding successfully retrieved and made conscious; an empty line or the fish slipping away = a lesson you reach for but haven't yet pulled into awareness; murky water you fish in = depths still too clouded to read clearly. That is one symbol decoded. The water you stood in, the figure beside you, the depth you cast into — each is still speaking.
