Look at its form and function: an exam is a test that takes knowledge you were supposed to absorb and checks whether it has truly become part of you. That is exactly what your inner Self does with experience. Life teaches a lesson; the exam-dream asks, have you integrated it, or only memorized it? So when you find yourself sitting an exam in a dream, examine where in your waking life a lesson is being put to the test right now — where what you say you understand is meeting the moment that demands you actually live it.

Read the common variations precisely. Being unprepared, or unable to find the room, does not mean failure — it means a lesson currently feels too big, a signal to strengthen your mental tools (concentration, attention, memory, imagination) before the test of living it arrives. Passing with ease = mastery you have genuinely earned and can now build upon. Notice too that the exam usually appears inside a school — a learning state of mind — and the figure handing it to you may be a teacher, the superconscious, your own inner authority gauging your readiness.
